Act 44: Parent and Employee Notification of Weapon Incidents
Act 44 of 2025 is a Pennsylvania law designed to increase transparency and communication when incidents involving weapons occur on school property or at school-related events. Under Act 44, school districts are required to notify parents, guardians and school employees when an incident involves the possession of a weapon and violates state law or district policy.
A notification is required when a weapon is found on:
-
School grounds or in a school building
-
A location where a school-sponsored activity is taking place
-
School transportation, including buses.
Weapons may include firearms, knives, cutting instruments or other items capable of causing serious bodily injury, as defined by law.
In most cases, families and staff will be notified within 24 hours of the incident via a ParentSquare notification, such as a text and/or email. Notifications are required even when a threat assessment determines there is no ongoing threat. Depending on the location of the incident, notifications may be limited to the specific school involved.
To protect student privacy, notifications will not include personally identifiable information, in accordance with federal and state privacy laws. Act 44 does not replace emergency procedures or law-enforcement reporting requirements, which remain a priority in all situations.
Saucon Valley School District remains committed to student safety, clear communication, and compliance with all state requirements while respecting the privacy and well-being of students and staff.
