Hellertown, PA -- Saucon Valley High School’s Scholastic Scrimmage team is earning well-deserved recognition after an impressive series of performances.

On December 10, Saucon Valley competed in the national 30-20-10 virtual Scholastic Scrimmage competition, a fast-paced academic challenge that brought together 355 high schools from across the country. Working collaboratively, all 10 team members contributed answers as they tackled 80 three-part questions in just under two hours. When the final results were tallied, Saucon Valley placed 18th nationally and finished first overall in Pennsylvania — a remarkable achievement in a highly competitive field.

The team posted a score of 1,620 points, averaging 20.25 points per bonus and answering 67.5 percent of questions correctly, completing the competition in 1:49:41. Participants included Ryan Pakzad, Andie Kiefer, Stepan Goudsouzian, Eddie Webb, David Fleck, Gaddiel Bido-Huertas, Maggie Gorman, Emma Fenstermacher, Alex Morawski and Angelina Chen.

That momentum carried into the regional competition. On January 8, Saucon Valley faced Moravian Academy in the PBS 39 WLVT Scholastic Scrimmage championship match. The championship capped a months-long run that began in October, when 29 schools entered a single-elimination bracket for the chance to compete on the region’s most visible academic stage.

This appearance marked just the third time Saucon Valley has reached the championship since the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Scrimmage began in 1975, with prior finishes as runner-up in 1978 and champion in 1997. Despite a strong showing and determined effort, Saucon Valley finished as runner-up to Moravian Academy. The championship team included Alex Morawski (captain), Max Brasko, Stepan Goudsouzian, Cion Pakzad and Kyle Chi (alternate).

In addition to the team’s success, senior Alex Morawski was selected to represent Saucon Valley in the Scholastic Scrimmage All-Star Match. The match is a special exhibition, featuring one student from each of the final eight schools. It's designed as a fun, low-stakes celebration of academic achievement and sportsmanship.

Viewers will have several opportunities to watch Saucon Valley’s Scholastic Scrimmage journey on PBS-39.
