Hellertown, PA -- This past weekend, the Saucon Valley School District once again proved itself a leader in STEM education by hosting the Pennsylvania FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Championship. For the fourth time in five years, our district facilities became the stage for 40 of some of the most elite robotics teams to compete for a coveted spot at the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas. While our SVSD teams did not advance to the regional championship this year, they remain a vital part of a program that has seen Saucon Valley competitors qualify for this prestigious state event in 50% of the years we have hosted.

The success of such a complex event is a testament to the dedication of our Saucon Valley community. Robert Svitilla, the robotics advisor, notes how our facilities department and custodial staff provided outstanding management and coverage throughout the weekend, going above and beyond to ensure our campus remained a clean, safe and professional environment for every visitor. The backbone of the event consisted of dozens of our own students and their caregivers, who volunteered their time. From Friday’s set-up through Sunday’s final matches, their collective work ethic was essential to producing a flawless event.

Hosting this championship means much more than simply providing a venue; it serves as a powerful reinforcement of Saucon Valley’s reputation as a hub for robotics in Pennsylvania. It allows the district to foster a culture where students learn to balance the "ballet" of finely tuned robotics competition with the core values of "Gracious Professionalism." As Svitilla noted during the opening ceremony, "I’m excited to observe the 'ballet' of finely tuned robots during gameplay, but I’m more excited for the continued displays of inclusion, teamwork, and fun that always amaze me at the Pennsylvania FTC Championship."
