STEM Education

Students in grades 2, 3 and 4 will utilize supplementary materials from the Engineering is Elementary Project, (Eie). Eie addresses the pressing need for effective STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), education through current curriculum development and dissemination, professional development, and educational research.

The Eie Project serves children and educators with a focus on hands-on-learning, critical thinking skills, and connection to the world around them. The fun, flexible, and highly engaging curricula is designed to integrate with the current Full Option Science System curriculum—while helping students develop essential understandings about engineering and the work that engineers do.

As they continue into the high school, Saucon Valley students may select to enroll in an additional series of STEM education courses. Project Lead the Way, (PLTW), provides a comprehensive approach to the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Through a hands-on, project and problem-based curriculum, PLTW give our high school students a chance to apply what they know through personalized inquiry-based problem solving.

PLTW Engineering is focused on applying engineering, science, math, and technology knowledge and skills to solve complex open-ended problems in a real world context. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem, not on getting the “right” answer. The PLTW Engineering program provides opportunities to develop highly transferable skills in collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, which are relevant for any coursework or career path.
